SNTE union seeks permanent teaching posts and USICAMM reforms

Leaders of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) are advocating for structural changes regarding teacher employment and the replacement of the Unit for the System for the Career of Teachers and School Staff (USICAMM).

Eduardo Zendejas Amparán, head of Section 8, addressed protests from teachers and normalista students demanding permanent rather than temporary teaching positions. He explained that temporary placements are currently used between August and December to adjust for new school year enrollments and upcoming retirements, but emphasized that the union is working with educational authorities to maximize the number of permanent positions.

Simultaneously, Everardo Padrón, leader of Section 5, called for the new mechanism replacing USICAMM to maintain bilateral participation between the union and educational authorities. The union's proposals include ensuring permanent SNTE representation in admission, promotion, and additional hour assignment processes. Padrón also requested that evaluation instruments be conducted in person and that the new system facilitate teacher mobility rather than acting as a restrictive tool.
