Säntisbahn AG installs new cable car cabins at Schwägalp

The Säntis-Schwebebahn AG has reached a major milestone in the reconstruction of the Säntis cable car. On Tuesday, October 20, the new cabins were successfully lifted onto the support cables at Schwägalp, a process referred to by the company as the ‘wedding’.

The new cabins, manufactured by CWA Constructions SA, were transported from Olten via special heavy-duty trucks. Each cabin, including its suspension and drive mechanism, has a total weight of approximately 8.3 tons. The design features a vibrant red color with Swiss crosses, inspired by the Säntis flag.

Each cabin is designed to carry 85 passengers plus one attendant. The project is proceeding according to an ambitious schedule, with the company aiming for service to resume by mid-December, pending final construction, assembly, and approval from the Federal Office of Transport. The new units are specifically engineered to withstand the extreme weather conditions characteristic of the Säntis summit.
