Alpiagra fair opens in Alpiarça to promote local agriculture and culture

The 44th edition of Alpiagra, the Agricultural and Commercial Fair of Alpiarça, commenced on Saturday, August 22. The nine-day event focuses on agriculture, gastronomy, culture, and local commerce.

The official opening ceremony included Alpiarça Municipal President Sónia Sanfona and Pedro Beato, vice-president of the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo. Sanfona noted that the fair is gaining national recognition, attracting visitors from various regions interested in local traditions and products.

A major highlight of this edition is the introduction of ‘Pastéis de Melão de Alpiarça’ (Alpiarça Melon Pastries). Created by Clara Reis, these limited-edition pastries are designed to promote the municipality's emblematic melon and traditional confectionery. The event also featured a traditional ‘Cortejo das Vindimas’ (Grape Harvest Procession) to mark the start of the festivities.
