São Bernardo and Maringá rank among Brazil's top cities for low water loss

São Bernardo was placed seventh in a national study by the Instituto Trata Brasil, recording a water‑loss rate of 18.25 %—well below the 39.53 % national average and the 25 % target set for 2033. The municipality’s improvement follows Sabesp’s investment of about R$ 35.8 million in infrastructure, network modernisation and loss‑detection technologies between 2024 and 2025.

Maringá also featured in the ranking, listed among the 12 most populous Brazilian cities with excellent water‑loss performance. The city reported a total loss of 22.78 % and 152.42 litres per connection per day, meeting the Ministry of Cities’ excellence criteria of under 25 % loss and 216 l / connection / day. The results stem from Sanepar’s digital “Sanepar 5.0” program and a R$ 14.8 million investment in research, development and innovation announced for 2025. Paraná’s overall loss rate of 33.40 % remains below the national average.
