São Bernardo do Campo residential building collapse leaves five injured

A residential building collapsed in the Jardim Calux neighborhood of São Bernardo do Campo on Saturday morning during heavy rainfall. The incident involved a structure housing two families, totaling eight residents.

Emergency responders rescued five people from under the rubble, including a 15-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman. All victims were pulled out alive and transported to local hospitals; two have since been discharged, while others remain in stable condition under medical supervision.

In response to the collapse, authorities have cordoned off three neighboring properties as a safety precaution. Approximately twenty people were displaced and are receiving municipal assistance in nearby hotels. The accident also caused traffic disruptions on the Via Anchieta highway, requiring the closure of two lanes to facilitate emergency and cleaning operations. Technical experts will investigate the exact cause of the collapse.
