São Caetano do Sul reaches 600 days without murders
The Brazilian city of São Caetano do Sul has surpassed 600 days without a recorded murder, according to reports from Gazeta de São Paulo. This milestone is particularly notable as the municipality has over 100,000 inhabitants and is located in a densely urbanized region near São Paulo.
According to the 2026 Brazilian Public Security Yearbook, the city ranked first among 338 Brazilian municipalities with more than 100,000 residents regarding intentional violent deaths. Based on 2025 data, the city recorded a rate of 1.2 intentional violent deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. The most recent recorded incident occurred in April and involved two victims in a traffic-related event.
The city's security performance is attributed to integrated efforts between the Municipal Civil Guard, the Military Police, and the Civil Police, alongside technological initiatives such as the ‘Smart Sanca’ project, which utilizes video monitoring for real-time incident management.
