São Francisco de Paula police investigate death of two-month-old baby

Authorities in São Francisco de Paula are investigating the death of a two-month-old baby. The mother, a 20-year-old woman, was arrested following the incident.

Medical professionals at a local hospital notified the Brigada Militar after discovering signs of physical abuse on the infant during emergency care. The child's mother had brought the baby to the medical unit herself. Both the mother and the father were taken to the Gramado Police Station for questioning.

Preliminary investigations by the Civil Police suggest a context of family instability. While there are reports of a possible fall, investigators are examining all hypotheses to determine the exact cause of death. An autopsy has been ordered to provide further clarity for the investigation.
