São Gonçalo conducts evacuation drill in Nova Grécia

The São Gonçalo Civil Defense conducted an evacuation drill in the Nova Grécia neighborhood as part of the ‘São Gonçalo Resiliente’ project. The exercise is designed to train residents on how to respond quickly to siren alerts during heavy rainfall and potential landslide risks.

During the simulation, residents practiced following safe routes to the designated support point at the Presidente João Belchior Marques Goulart Municipal School. The initiative also provided community services, including vaccinations, blood pressure and glucose monitoring, oral health guidance, and social assistance through the Centro de Referência de Assistência Social (Cras).

Major Felipe Assumpção, the Deputy Secretary of Civil Defense, stated that the drill aims to bring the population closer to the agency and test both the siren volume and the community's adherence to evacuation protocols. Officials also used the event to conduct risk assessments and listen to local community concerns.
