São Gonçalo do Rio Abaixo students participate in agroforestry lesson

Students from the Bombeiro Mirim project in São Gonçalo do Rio Abaixo participated in a practical lesson at the local agroforestry system. The activity is part of the Saber Integral program, managed by the Municipal Secretariat of Education, and was supported by the Secretariat of the Environment.

During the visit, students learned about Agroforestry Systems (SAF), which combine food cultivation with tree planting to mimic natural ecosystems. This method aims to protect and recover soil while allowing for the integrated production of various species. The local agroforestry site features crops such as coffee, cocoa, and various fruits, interspersed with other plants like banana and cassava. The lesson focused on plant identification, the use of natural fertilizers, and how crop sequencing maintains soil health.
