São Gonçalo health unit receives first breastfeeding certification

The José Bruno Neto Family Health Unit (USF) in the Boa Vista neighborhood has become the first health center in São Gonçalo to be certified as a ‘Breastfeeding Friendly Basic Unit Initiative’ (IUBAAM). This certification is part of a state program managed by the State Health Secretariat (SES) designed to promote, protect, and support exclusive breastfeeding.

To achieve this quality seal, health professionals underwent theoretical training and practical breastfeeding management sessions at the Mário Niajar Municipal Maternity Hospital. The unit provides support to pregnant women and postpartum mothers, encouraging breastfeeding to begin within the first hour of birth and promoting demand feeding without the use of pacifiers or bottles. The facility also features a specialized room dedicated to assisting mothers with breastfeeding.
