São Gonçalo Municipal Guard Launches Armed ROMU Patrol Unit

The São Gonçalo Municipal Guard began operational patrols with its new Ronda Ostensiva Municipal Urbana (ROMU) armed unit on 30 July 2026. The launch ceremony was held at the George Savalla Gomes Municipal Theater and was attended by local officials, including Mayor Capitão Nelson, Vice‑Mayor João Ventura and Councilor Felipe Guarany.

The ROMU comprises 64 municipal guards equipped with .40‑caliber pistols, ballistic vests, body‑cameras and marked vehicles. The unit’s creation followed a five‑year preparation that started in 2021, involving 100 hours of theoretical and practical training with the Military Police, psychological examinations and individual certification by the Federal Police.
