São José and Jaraguá do Sul shine at Santa Catarina Open Games athletics

Athletics teams from the municipalities of São José and Jaraguá do Sul delivered strong results at the early phase of the 38th Joguinhos Abertos de Santa Catarina held in Timbó. São José secured six medals – five gold and one bronze – with Maria Clara Branco Corrêa winning gold in both the 100‑metre and 400‑metre hurdles, Yasmin Nogueira Ferreira taking gold in the 3,000‑metre and 5,000‑metre races, Matheus Corrêa de Andrade capturing gold in the hammer throw and Felipe Aner Dri earning bronze in the decathlon. Municipal sports secretary Claiton Ribeiro praised the achievements as evidence of effective youth investment.

Jaraguá do Sul’s delegation topped the athletics medal table with fourteen medals – five gold, four silver and five bronze – earning two overall trophies and a third‑place finish in both the male and female categories. Notable winners included Fernanda Fagundes Moisés (gold in pole vault), João Gabriel Olivo Arruda (gold in both the 3,000‑metre and 5,000‑metre events), Lucas Matheus Chichoski (gold in the 3,000‑metre hurdles) and Kauan Lima Batista (gold in pole vault with a record‑breaking 4.31 m and a ninth‑place finish in long jump).
