São José do Rio Preto: Campaign team attacked during leafleting
A campaign team for Workers' Party (PT) candidates was attacked during a leafleting activity in the Vila Toninho neighborhood of São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo. The group, which included 12 women and one teenager, was distributing campaign materials for state deputy candidate Duda Hidalgo, presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and São Paulo gubernatorial candidate Fernando Haddad.
According to campaign reports, a man confronted the group, leading to a physical altercation where at least one worker was knocked down and dragged. The incident was recorded on mobile phones and witnessed by bystanders. The Military Police were called to the scene, and the suspect was taken to the Central de Flagrantes.
The PT municipal directory issued a statement condemning the act as political violence and gender-based aggression, specifically citing misogyny. The legal team for Duda Hidalgo is seeking security camera footage to assist the Civil Police in their investigation into the circumstances of the assault.
