São José do Rio Preto International Theatre Festival features two Ceará groups

The Festival Internacional de Teatro de São José do Rio Preto (FIT Rio Preto) runs from 16 to 25 July 2026, marking its 57th edition and the 24th with an international focus. Organized jointly by the municipal Secretariat of Culture and Sesc São Paulo, the event will present 32 theatrical productions from Brazil and abroad.

Two Ceará companies are on the program. Teatro Máquina from Fortaleza will stage “Alie e as Estrelas”, an adaptation of *O Plano Secreto de Alie* for children, while Trupe Motim de Teatro will perform “Bicho Alumbroso nas Entranhas do Encanto”, a piece drawing on Northeastern folklore. Both shows run on multiple dates at venues across the city, including SESI Espaço Flamboyant, Parque Cidade da Criança, and local schools.

The festival aims to promote artistic exchange and decentralise Brazil’s theatre scene, offering audiences a mix of contemporary storytelling, music, dance and visual art.
