Diogo dos Santos Serpa arrested for impersonating a doctor in Nova Iguaçu

Diogo dos Santos Serpa, 42, was arrested in flagrante for practicing medicine without a license in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro. He had been providing home care services since October 2025, specifically treating a 10-year-old girl suffering from a high-risk malignant brain tumor (medulloblastoma grade IV).

Investigation revealed that Serpa used the name and CRM number of physician Jeferson Targino Sampaio to issue prescriptions, request exams, and provide medical documentation. He reportedly charged between R$ 700 and R$ 1,000 per visit and conducted at least six home consultations.

The fraud was uncovered by the child's mother, who noticed a feeding tube had not been changed for five months. Upon checking the doctor's credentials on the Cremerj website, she discovered the photo belonged to a different person.

A judge has converted Serpa's arrest into preventive detention, stating his release poses a direct risk to public safety due to his habitual use of stolen medical identities.
