São José dos Campos sports academy instructor removed after sexual harassment allegations

A court in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, ordered the removal of a sports academy instructor accused of sexually harassing adolescent female athletes. The judge issued a temporary injunction prohibiting the instructor from contacting the athletes or witnesses and mandated that parents or guardians be allowed to attend training sessions. The academy must also permit athletes to have cell phones and record video during classes.

The municipality of São José dos Campos was tasked with overseeing the academy’s compliance with the ruling. Failure by either the sports entity or the city to meet the obligations may result in a daily fine of R$ 1,000, capped at R$ 50,000. Psychological support for the victims is to be provided through the municipal health network. The case proceeds under secrecy of justice, with identities of the victims, the instructor and the academy protected.
