São José dos Campos opens electric bus charging station

São José dos Campos has inaugurated a new electric charging station in the southern region of the municipality to support the expansion of its electric bus fleet. The facility covers 12,800 square meters and features 17 Nansen chargers, providing a total of 34 charging points and 34 vehicle spaces.

The project involved an investment of R$ 12.7 million, with R$ 5.2 million allocated to electrical infrastructure and R$ 7.5 million to civil works. The station has an installed capacity of 4.5 MW, utilizing two 2.25 MW energy connections. Each charger can reach a power of up to 320 kW, with connectors configured to provide up to 140 kW to accommodate the fleet operated by Urbam.

This infrastructure is part of a gradual electrification plan for public transport. Currently, the city operates 20 fully electric buses, and the local government has announced plans to add 90 more electric buses to the fleet.
