São José Esporte Clube goalkeeper Miguel Meneses dies at 14

Miguel Meneses, a 14-year-old goalkeeper for the São José Esporte Clube under-15 team, passed away on Tuesday following a serious traffic accident. The young athlete had been in intensive care at the Municipal Hospital in São José dos Campos since Sunday, October 25.

The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday on the Anel Viário in the Monte Castelo neighborhood. According to police reports, a driver lost control of a Honda Civic on a wet road while navigating a curve, striking a tree. Four members of the same family were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

Following the medical protocol for brain death and an irreversible cardiac arrest, the club confirmed Meneses' death. In a gesture of solidarity, his parents authorized the donation of his organs to benefit others.

Members of the club's under-17 squad held a tribute to Meneses before a match against Corinthians in the Campeonato Paulista, carrying a banner to honor their teammate.
