São Ludgero tests new biodigester systems for rural sanitation

The municipality of São Ludgero, through a joint effort between the Municipal Secretariat of Agriculture, Pisciculture and Environment and the Municipal Water and Sewage Service (SAMAE), has begun testing a new individual sewage treatment system for rural areas.

The initiative utilizes polyethylene biodigesters that function as residential mini-sewage treatment plants. This technology aims to replace traditional concrete ring systems, offering several technical advantages including easier logistics due to being lighter and more compact, reduced excavation requirements, and improved environmental efficiency through higher watertightness to protect soil and groundwater.

A key operational benefit of the new system is that it eliminates the need for traditional septic tank cleaning trucks, providing greater agility and cost savings for rural families.
