São Luís City Council schedules leadership election per STF ruling

The São Luís City Council has scheduled the election for its Board of Directors for the early morning of October 1, following a ruling by the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF). The decision aligns with the STF's ruling in Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (ADI) 7,733, which requires legislative board elections to occur exactly three months before the start of the new biennium to ensure contemporaneity.

The new board is set to take office on January 1, 2027. The presidential race features councilors Marquinhos Silva (União Brasil) and Beto Castro (Avante). The new election date was approved by a majority of 21 councilors.
