São Luís Book Fair features 38 stands and diverse literary programming
The 19th São Luís Book Fair (FeliS) is currently underway at Maria Aragão Square in the center of São Luís, running until September 27. The event features 38 bookstore stands organized in partnership with the Association of Booksellers and Publishers of Maranhão (ALEM-MA).
Participants include 11 second-hand bookstores (sebos) occupying a climate-controlled space, which organizers note helps democratize access to literature through affordable prices and rare editions. To further encourage reading, all stands are accepting 'Vales-Livros' (book vouchers) distributed by the Municipal Education Secretariat to local students and teachers.
The programming includes approximately 100 book launches, workshops, and lectures by prominent Brazilian authors such as Jeferson Tenório, Socorro Acioli, and Raphael Montes. This edition honors the writer Humberto de Campos as patron, with tributes to Mata Roma and Antônio Lobo.
