São Paulo hosts Latin America’s largest Korean Culture Festival

Korean Culture Festival São Paulo Gaho Brazilian cultural festivals August events

The 19th Festival da Cultura Coreana took place on 15‑16 August in São Paulo’s Bom Retiro district, organized by the Associação Brasileira dos Coreanos. Free admission attracted an estimated 100 000 visitors to Praça Coronel Fernando Prestes, featuring a debut Brazilian concert by South‑Korean singer Gaho, traditional Korean performances, taekwondo displays and a large food market.

In the same weekend, Campinas hosted the Festival Som de Preto, a free two‑day event at Estação Cultura showcasing DJs, hip‑hop, afro‑beat, samba and a food program, while also collecting food donations for local charities.

São Luís’ Centro Cultural Vale Maranhão opened its Indigenous Music Festival as part of “Agosto Indígena,” presenting concerts, documentary screenings and workshops that highlighted the music and cultural resistance of Brazil’s Indigenous peoples.

Other cultural activities across Brazil in August included a documentary premiere on Maranhão’s bumba‑meu‑boi in São Luís, a Mamulengo theatre showcase in São Benedito do Sul (PE), and a Sesc‑Roraima spectacle celebrating Amazonian identity in Boa Vista. All events were free or offered ticket‑for‑food entry, emphasizing community participation and cultural exchange.
