São Luís implements security totems with 360° cameras

The Maranhão state government has begun installing security totems in São Luís to enhance public monitoring and emergency response. Governor Carlos Brandão announced the deployment of approximately 30 to 33 units across various strategic locations, including tourist areas, high-traffic zones, and specific neighborhoods such as Litorânea, the Historic Center, Ilhinha, João Paulo, Cohab, and Itaqui-Bacanga.

These totems are connected 24 hours a day to the Integrated Security Operations Center (CIOPS). Each unit is equipped with 360-degree cameras capable of real-time monitoring and long-distance facial recognition. In an emergency, citizens can press a dedicated button to request immediate assistance. Once activated, operators at the central station can view the surroundings via the cameras to assess the situation and dispatch the nearest security team.

The initiative is part of a broader investment in public safety in Maranhão, which includes the acquisition of new vehicles, the hiring of civil and military police officers, and the expansion of intelligence operations. The recorded footage will also serve as support for future police investigations.
