São Luís Municipal Chamber schedules board election for October 1

The São Luís Municipal Chamber has scheduled the election for its new Board of Directors for October 1. The decision followed a meeting involving approximately 21 councilors.

An official summons for the extraordinary session is expected to be published shortly. While the vote was initially planned for 9:00 AM, there is internal expectation that it may occur at midnight.

The election timeline follows legal uncertainty regarding the timing of legislative board elections, following a Supreme Federal Court (STF) ruling that established limits on advancing such votes. Politically, the election involves competing groups linked to the Palácio dos Leões. Although some government supporters initially advocated for delaying the vote until after the general elections, councilors ultimately decided to push for the election to take place before the first round of the gubernatorial elections.
