São Luís Municipal Guard receives new salary structure
The Municipal Chamber of São Luís has approved two executive bills aimed at restructuring the career, compensation, and working conditions of the Municipal Guard. The legislation introduces a new salary table where initial wages start at R$ 7,450 and can reach approximately R$ 17,000 for the inspector position through functional progression.
Key components of the approved measures include the implementation of a subsidy regime and the creation of the Special Activity Indemnity (IAE). The IAE replaces the previous overtime payment system with a fixed indemnity, intended to provide greater budgetary predictability for the municipality and financial certainty for officers. The indemnity amounts are set at R$ 350 for call-ups of up to six hours and R$ 700 for call-ups of up to twelve hours.
Council members and representatives of the guard noted that the process involved three months of dialogue to reach a consensus that addresses historical wage gaps and ensures better working conditions and retirement stability for the category.
