São Miguel and Praia Norte record lowest IDEB scores in Bico do Papagaio

The 2025 Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) results show that São Miguel do Tocantins and Praia Norte tied for the lowest scores in the Bico do Papagaio region for the early years of elementary school. Both municipal networks achieved a score of 4.5, which is below the regional average of 4.9, the Tocantins state average of 5.8, and the national average of 6.1.

While both municipalities shared the bottom position, their progress differed. São Miguel, the fourth most populous municipality in the region, saw a slight increase from 4.4 in 2023 to 4.5 in 2025. Praia Norte showed more significant growth, rising from 4.0 to 4.5 during the same period, though this was insufficient to move the network out of the regional bottom ranking.
