São Miguel do Oeste hosts state school games with 690 schools competing
From 26 June to 4 July, São Miguel do Oeste in Santa Catarina is the venue for the state stage of the Jogos Escolares de Santa Catarina. The competition brings together student‑athletes aged 12‑14 from 690 schools across the state, who will contest medals in 16 individual and team disciplines, including futsal, basketball, volleyball, cycling, chess and rhythmic gymnastics.
The event is organized by the state government through the Fundação Catarinense de Esporte, in partnership with the municipal administration. According to Fesporte president Jeferson Batista, the gathering of delegations from 690 schools demonstrates the success of the sports decentralisation policy and serves as a tool for inclusion and social transformation. The top finishers in each category will qualify to represent Santa Catarina at the national Jogos Escolares Brasileiros.
