Goiânia launches $92 million BRT Norte‑Sul expansion

The mayor of Goiânia, Sandro Mabel, inaugurated the first 4.8‑kilometre segment of the BRT Norte‑Sul corridor on 14 July. The phase connects Terminal Isidória in the Pedro Ludovico district with Terminal Cruzeiro in Aparecida de Goiânia and is funded with R$ 92.4 million – R$ 70 million from the federal government and R$ 24 million from the municipal treasury.

The works, carried out by the Portuguese‑led ACA BRT Norte‑Sul consortium, will create an exclusive bus lane, complete Station 5 on Avenida 4ª Radial, and upgrade six other stations. Metronization technology will be installed to synchronise traffic signals and reduce bus stops, improving speed and reliability. The project also includes environmental measures, with 62 palm trees slated for transplantation and other trees compensated.

When finished, the BRT Norte‑Sul line will span about 29.6 kilometres, linking Goiânia and Aparecida de Goiânia, cutting travel times and providing higher‑capacity, more comfortable public transport for thousands of daily passengers.
