São Paulo allocates R$ 200 million for downtown building retrofits

The City of São Paulo has released R$ 200 million to support the retrofit of old buildings in the city center. This funding is part of the fourth call for the Economic Subsidy program, which can cover up to 25% of renovation costs through non-reimbursable public funds.

The initiative is part of a larger R$ 1 billion plan to revitalize the urban center. Applications for this new round are open from August 15 to October 13, 2026. Currently, 50 buildings are undergoing requalification through programs like Requalifica Centro and the Economic Subsidy, representing 5,238 homes.

Mayor Ricardo Nunes stated that the program aims to assist with renovations, noting that for a building requiring R$ 1 million in repairs, the city can provide up to R$ 250,000 in non-reimbursable funds.
