São Paulo allocates R$ 34.9 million for flood mitigation in Grande ABC
The State of São Paulo plans to invest approximately R$ 34.9 million in desilting operations to mitigate flooding in the Grande ABC region. The funds are scheduled for staggered application during the first quarter of 2027, focusing on two main areas: the Tamanduateí River and the Oratório Stream.
In Santo André, the Tamanduateí River project involves cleaning roughly 4.9 km of the riverbed, with an estimated removal of 120,000 m³ of sediment. This phase is expected to cost R$ 30.3 million and take 12 months to complete. Additionally, R$ 4.6 million has been allocated for work on the Oratório Stream, which will be divided into four priority sections.
These interventions are part of a broader state strategy for water resilience. SP Águas, the state water agency, noted that these actions follow previous financial commitments made by the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics (Semil) for cleaning and desilting regional streams.
