Southeast Brazil experiences record cold temperatures
A strong polar air mass has brought record-breaking cold temperatures to Southeast Brazil. On September 7, São Paulo recorded its coldest September afternoon since 2000, with a maximum temperature of 13.6°C at the Mirante de Santana station. The city also experienced its lowest September morning temperature in four years, reaching 10.1°C.
Rio de Janeiro also saw significant temperature drops, recording a maximum of 19°C, its lowest for the year and its coldest September afternoon since 2015. The intense cold is attributed to a polar air mass spreading across the central-south region of the country.
Weather forecasts indicate continued instability. While some areas may see a gradual rise in temperatures, there is a high probability of rain and potential storms in the coming days. Authorities have issued alerts regarding temperature declines and potential storm activity.
