Brazil weather alert: Severe storms and heavy rain across multiple regions

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) and Civil Defense have issued widespread alerts for severe weather across Brazil. A low-pressure area situated between northern Argentina, western Paraguay, and southern Bolivia is driving instability, triggering storm warnings in 15 states.

In the South region, an orange alert warns of potential storms with winds exceeding 90 km/h and rainfall surpassing 150 mm, particularly in Rio Grande do Sul. In the Southeast, São Paulo is under state-wide alert for heavy rains, lightning, and strong winds through Saturday, with risks of flooding, landslides, and power outages. Rio de Janeiro also faces alerts for storms with winds up to 60 km/h and rainfall of up to 50 mm per day.

In the Center-West, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás face risks of hail and intense storms. The North region is under a yellow alert for heavy rain in Acre and western Amazonas. Meanwhile, parts of the Northeast are monitoring low humidity levels. Authorities advise citizens to clear gutters, secure loose objects, and avoid flooded areas or standing near trees during electrical storms.
