São Paulo arts scene debuts new circus and theater productions

Two new performing arts productions are debuting in São Paulo, exploring themes of labor, identity, and the challenges of independent artistry.

Circo Piorô will premiere ‘A Banda do Circo Piorô’ in September with free performances in the city's East Zone, including locations such as CEU Tiquatira and Centro Cultural da Penha. The show combines live music, clowning, juggling, and acrobatics to humorously examine the administrative and financial pressures faced by independent artists, questioning whether professionalization compromises artistic freedom.

Coletivo Noroest is debuting ‘Manifesto de Concreto’ at Teatro Paulo Eiró in Santo Amaro. The production integrates dance, theater, and circus to revisit the ‘Greve dos Queixadas’, a significant historical labor strike in the Perus neighborhood. The performance uses the symbol of concrete to connect past worker struggles with the contemporary challenges faced by residents in urban peripheries.
