São Paulo authorities crack down on organized crime groups

Authorities in São Paulo have taken significant actions against organized crime groups operating in the interior of the state. In Araras, a court sentenced 14 members of a criminal organization to a combined total of over 160 years in prison. The group, which included military police officers and municipal guards, was involved in contract killings, drug trafficking protection, bribery, and arms circulation. Investigations suggest the group supported a Comando Vermelho cell and targeted interests related to the Primeiro Comando da Capital.

In Jundiaí, the Civil Police arrested high-ranking members of a criminal faction who operated a clandestine monitoring center. This facility used cameras and radios to track the movements of security agents to preempt police actions. The suspects are also accused of drug trafficking and ordering torture and executions. During the operation, police seized several kilograms of cocaine, marijuana, firearms, and various items used in drug distribution and accounting.
