São Paulo Book Biennial hits record 760,000 visitors
The 28th São Paulo International Book Biennial concluded with record-breaking attendance, drawing 760,000 visitors to the Distrito Anhembi. This figure surpasses the 722,000 visitors recorded in 2024. The event, organized by the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL) in partnership with RX Brasil, occupied 87,000 square meters and featured 269 exhibitors and approximately 800 authors, 91% of whom were Brazilian.
Economic indicators for the event were strong, with exhibitors reporting a 57% increase in average daily revenue compared to the previous edition. Major publishers such as Rocco, HarperCollins, and Companhia das Letras reported significant growth in sales. To encourage reading, R$ 20 million in book vouchers were distributed, benefiting over 52,000 students and 154,000 public sector workers. Spain served as the guest of honor, presenting the ‘Confluências’ project.
Specific highlights included the Senate Bookstore, which sold over 20,000 copies of various titles, including the Federal Constitution. The event also saw high engagement from younger audiences, driven by social media trends and authors like Lynn Painter. The Biennial featured diverse programming, including workshops, cultural discussions, and specialized spaces for health, well-being, and artists.
