São Paulo Book Biennial hits record 760,000 visitors
The 28th São Paulo International Book Biennial set a new attendance record, drawing 760,000 visitors to the Distrito Anhembi over ten days. This figure surpasses the 722,000 visitors recorded in 2024, signaling a reinforced interest in reading and the integration of books and manga into mainstream pop culture.
The event featured 269 exhibitors, 800 authors, and 3.65 million books. Economic indicators from the event were positive, with exhibitors reporting an average daily revenue increase of 57% compared to the previous biennial. Accessibility was a key factor, as more than half of the visitors had free access, and various points of sale offered titles at low price points.
Manga emerged as a significant driver of growth. Within the Grupo Companhia das Letras, the JBC imprint was the second highest in sales volume, following the main Companhia das Letras label. The group reported a 67% increase in revenue and a 55% increase in copies sold compared to 2024, bolstered by affordable pricing strategies for younger audiences.
