São Paulo Book Biennial to introduce dedicated comics space
The 28th São Paulo International Book Biennial, scheduled for September 2026, will feature a dedicated space for comic books titled ‘Alameda dos Artistas’ (Artists' Alley). This marks the first time in the event's history that a section will be exclusively focused on comic artists and illustrators.
Ivan Costa, a co-founder of CCXP and curator of comics, has been tasked with managing this new area. The space will function similarly to large pop culture conventions, featuring 30 selected artists chosen to represent a diverse range of styles and generations within the Brazilian comic book scene. Costa noted that the initiative aims to embrace younger readers, particularly those interested in manga and illustrated literature.
The move comes as the Brazilian comic book market shows significant economic strength, generating approximately US$ 153.7 million in revenue in 2025, with an expected annual growth rate of 8% through 2033.
