São Paulo building collapse: Defense seeks release of construction partner

Defense lawyers for Ronaldo dos Santos Vivaqua, 63, have filed a request to revoke the temporary arrest of the businessman following the collapse of a 12-story building in the Penha district of São Paulo. Vivaqua is identified as a partner-owner of the construction company New Home, which was responsible for the building that collapsed onto a nearby residence.

The tragedy resulted in six deaths and left several others injured. Investigations by the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office suggest potential negligence in the construction process. Additionally, the New Home company is under investigation regarding the legality of its other projects.

Legal counsel for Vivaqua argues that the arrest is unnecessary, stating that he has a fixed residence, a lawful profession, and does not participate in the daily management of the company. The defense also highlighted that Vivaqua has serious health issues, including pulmonary concerns, which have been impacted by his detention. He remains available to cooperate with ongoing investigations.
