São Paulo cities launch technical assistance training for social housing

Municipalities in the state of São Paulo, including Campinas and Mogi das Cruzes, are implementing training programs for the ‘ATHIS em Rede: strengthening dignified housing in the Global South’ project. The initiative focuses on Technical Assistance for Social Interest Housing (ATHIS), which provides free architecture, urbanism, and engineering services to low-income families for home construction, renovation, or regularization.

In Campinas, the city is offering training sessions for professionals, public servants, and students to prepare them for the implementation of ATHIS policies. This program is a partnership involving ONU-Habitat, the Architecture and Urbanism Council of São Paulo (CAU/SP), and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC/MRE).

Mogi das Cruzes, which was the first city in Brazil to sign a commitment to join the program, has already begun its training sessions. The course aims to bridge theoretical and practical knowledge for urban planners and public managers through dialogue with local communities.
