São Paulo City Council Spends R$7 million on Health Aid for Employees

In May, the São Paulo Municipal Chamber disbursed roughly R$7 million for health‑assistance reimbursements to about 2,100 staff who use private medical plans. The reimbursements reached up to R$25,000 per employee after a 20.79% adjustment based on an inflation‑correction parameter, though no formal administrative act was published. The increase raised the ceiling for all age groups – for example, the limit for beneficiaries aged 0‑18 rose from R$798.93 to R$965.03, and for those 59 and older from R$7,189.01 to R$8,683.61. Payments above the ceiling occur only when reimbursement from previous months accumulates.

The Chamber also operates an internal health unit, known as a “UBS privada,” staffed by 35 professionals such as ophthalmologists, gynecologists, psychiatrists, physiotherapists, nurses and dentists, whose salaries cost about R$670,000.
