São Paulo court denies Marcos Mion's request to remove Bento Ribeiro videos

A court in São Paulo has denied a request by presenter Marcos Mion to remove or demonetize videos published by comedian Bento Ribeiro. The dispute stems from allegations made by Ribeiro regarding their time working together at MTV Brasil in 2009.

Mion filed a criminal complaint for slander and defamation, arguing that Ribeiro is profiting from spreading false information about him. The judge from the 1st Criminal Court of the TJ-SP acknowledged the gravity of the statements but ruled that removing the content at this stage would constitute “censura prévia” (prior censorship).

The court noted that the merits of the case have not yet been judged and Ribeiro has not yet presented his defense. The ruling clarified that while the videos remain online, this does not grant permission for new offenses, as any future statements exceeding legal limits may result in separate legal responsibility.
