São Paulo judge extends detention of PT councilor over alleged PCC links

A São Paulo judge granted a 30‑day extension of the temporary detention of councilor Senival Moura, who has suspended his affiliation with the PT. Moura is under investigation in Operation Última Parada for allegedly facilitating money‑laundering schemes tied to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) through the city’s public‑transport fleet. Prosecutors say he oversaw the exploitation of 13 buses from Transunião Transportes S.A., with financial movements totaling R$ 8.6 million between 2019 and 2022, including R$ 2.3 million of unexplained origin. The judge ruled that releasing Moura could jeopardise further testimony from family, partners and other suspects, and rejected the defense’s request for electronic monitoring. The magistrate ordered the prison to provide medical care and monitoring within 24 hours. Moura’s lawyers expressed “deep resentment,” planning to appeal the decision while Moura has asked to be removed from the PT to focus on his defence.
