São Paulo digital platform metrics challenged in Supreme Court
The political party Rede Sustentabilidade has filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to challenge regulations in the state of São Paulo that use digital platform metrics to evaluate educators and school managers.
The legal action targets tools within the “Sala do Futuro” program, such as Redação Paulista, Leia SP, and Tarefa SP. These platforms track student activities, including completed tasks, answered questions, and reading time. This data is aggregated via the SuperBI dashboard to assign grades to schools, which are then used to evaluate the performance of directors, supervisors, and professionals in probationary periods.
Rede argues that while the regulations do not explicitly mandate the use of these tools, linking platform metrics to professional evaluations effectively forces teachers to use them. The party contends this practice compromises pedagogical autonomy, limits pluralism in teaching methods, and raises concerns regarding the protection of students' personal data. Justice Dias Toffoli is overseeing the case and has requested information from the involved authorities.
