São José dos Campos GCM pursuit ends in fatal accident
A fatal accident in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, occurred following a pursuit by the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM). The incident involved a 16-year-old passenger on a motorcycle, who died after the vehicle collided with a GCM patrol car and a residential wall. The pursuit reportedly began after officers observed the teenagers riding without helmets or license plates.
The driver of the GCM vehicle claimed that the brakes failed to respond when the motorcycle slowed for a curve. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances, including a forensic analysis of the patrol car's braking system. The motorcycle involved was identified as a stolen Royal Enfield Classic 350. The driver of the motorcycle, also 16, was injured and faces charges related to receiving stolen property and disobeying authorities.
In separate news, Uber announced a new safety feature for its ‘Uber Teen’ account in Brazil. The tool allows parents or guardians to monitor their children's trips via a live video stream from the driver's smartphone camera. The feature is being rolled out gradually and is intended to provide an additional layer of security for users aged 12 to 17.
