São Paulo expands Muralha Paulista surveillance with 4,000 new cameras on highways and parks

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas signed an agreement to extend the Muralha Paulista system, adding more than 4,000 cameras on state‑run highways, parks and other regulated public facilities. The new network will feed real‑time video into the São Paulo police intelligence platform, enabling faster alerts and coordinated responses to organized crime.

The existing Muralha Paulista infrastructure already comprises over 125,000 cameras across more than 600 municipalities, employing facial‑recognition, license‑plate reading and cross‑checks with the National Arrest Warrant Database. The partnership involves the state secretariats of Public Security and Investment Partnerships, as well as the electricity regulatory agencies Artesp and Arsesp. Officials said the expanded “belt of security” will improve police deployment efficiency and strengthen the fight against criminal activity.
