São Paulo FC contests lawsuit filed by former president Julio Casares

São Paulo FC has filed a legal contestation against a lawsuit brought by its former president, Julio Casares, who resigned earlier this year to avoid impeachment. The club described Casares' arguments as “hallucinations” and accused him of attempting to shift responsibility for his actions onto third parties.

Casares filed the suit to overturn accusations of “reckless management” and to annul his expulsion from the club's Deliberative Council. He claimed he was the victim of political maneuvering and media accusations. His defense argued that the approval of accounts from 2021 to 2024 should nullify his liability and that his use of the corporate card for personal expenses should be considered regular.

The club's defense countered that Casares previously admitted to using the corporate card for personal luxury items, medical expenses, and other private costs. São Paulo FC also noted that independent audits had flagged significant financial movements lacking sufficient documentation regarding their origin and purpose. The club is requesting the dismissal of the lawsuit and, if it proceeds, the total rejection of Casares' claims.
