São Paulo FC fails to secure Renato Sanches amid transfer ban
São Paulo FC attempted to sign free agent midfielder Renato Sanches, but negotiations failed to progress. The 29-year-old Portuguese midfielder, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, was a target for the club to bolster their squad for the Campeonato Brasileiro and continental competitions.
Reports indicate that financial obstacles were a primary factor, as the required wages, signing bonuses, and commissions exceeded the club's current capacity. Additionally, a FIFA transfer ban currently prevents São Paulo from registering new players, complicating any potential acquisition.
Despite these setbacks, the club has sought new revenue streams, including a 140 million reais (approximately 25 million euros) agreement with Ticketmaster for stadium ticketing and membership management. Sanches remains a free agent and has expressed openness to future proposals from Brazilian clubs when transfer windows reopen.
