São Paulo FC lifts FIFA transfer ban after paying Lazio debt

São Paulo Futebol Clube settled the outstanding payment to Italy's Lazio for the Marcos Antônio transfer, paying the first €1.05 million installment. The club has filed a request with FIFA to remove the transfer ban that had prevented registration of new players. The ban is expected to be lifted in the coming days, which would allow São Paulo to officially register centre‑back Domingos Duarte and left‑back Iago, both already training with the squad and potentially available for the upcoming match against Grêmio.

Separately, businessman and former financial market executive Diego Fernandes criticised the club’s internal politics in a viral Instagram video, urging a break from the “old political model” and calling for a professional governance structure. Fernandes highlighted the club’s recurring debts, crises and the transfer ban as symptoms of a stagnant management system.
