Corinthians and Caixa advance negotiations to settle stadium debt

Sport Club Corinthians Paulista and Caixa Econômica Federal have advanced negotiations to address the club's debt related to the construction of the Neo Química Arena, estimated between R$ 630 million and R$ 660 million. In a meeting held in Brasília, both institutions signed a confidentiality agreement to continue evaluating alternatives to improve their relationship.

One primary proposal under discussion involves the club ceding the stadium's naming rights to Caixa for a period of 15 years in exchange for debt forgiveness. While the current naming rights contract with Hypera Pharma yields approximately R$ 15 million to R$ 21 million annually, Corinthians' administration estimates the asset's market value at roughly R$ 70 million per season.

As part of an immediate financial reprieve, Caixa has agreed to suspend debt payments for one year and has ceased the retention of portions of the club's ticket sales and prize money. This measure is intended to provide the club with greater cash flow flexibility amid existing financial challenges. The negotiations have drawn attention from other Brazilian football clubs, such as Flamengo and Atlético-MG, who have expressed concerns regarding potential preferential treatment involving a public banking institution.
