São Paulo FC faces FIFA transfer ban and potential points deduction
São Paulo FC is facing a potential deduction of up to six points in the Brasileirão due to a FIFA transfer ban. The sanction stems from an unpaid debt of approximately US$ 300,000 (R$ 1.5 million) owed to agents involved in the 2022 transfer of midfielder Giuliano Galoppo. The club has 60 days, until early December, to settle the debt to avoid the points deduction.
This marks the second transfer ban the club has faced in 2026, following a previous dispute with Lazio regarding Marcos Antônio, which was resolved in August. The club is reportedly looking to use funds from a recent agreement with Ticketmaster to regularize its financial standing.
Internally, the club is navigating significant instability. There are reports of a major restructuring expected by 2027, which could involve the departure of president Harry Massis, coach Dorival Júnior, and various players. Despite recent performance concerns and financial pressures, reports suggest the club is not currently considering dismissing Dorival Júnior due to the high cost of his contract and the constraints imposed by the transfer ban.
